Prev NextA French proverb says that “it is impossible to overdo luxury” and who are we to argue with such a sound philosophy! Luxury.org.uk has ideas and suggestions for every kind of indulgence from luxury holidays, to lifestyle treats such as food and spirits, trips to events, top of the range home and electronic products, holidays, and more. The only question is, how will you decide to treat yourself?
If a holiday is one of the first things that comes to mind, then there are a host of luxury hotels across the world waiting to welcome you. In the UK this could mean a trip to The Ritz, The Dorchester, or Langham Hotels in London, Down Hall Country House Hotel in Hertfordshire, Llangoed Hall, in Brecon, Wales, Taplow House Hotel In Windsor, or the ‘design hotel’ Missoni in Edinburgh. Further afield, the choices could include The Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, the mighty Jumerirah in Dubai, The Elegant Hotels Group in Barbados, or closer to home, the Cipriani in Venice, The Westin Excelsior in Rome, or the Hotel Arts in Barcelona. All these and many other luxury hotels offer an interesting, and high quality mix of décor, dining, and other facilities.
Sometimes it’s time to add some luxury to day to day life instead, and the property or holiday home market might be the first port of call. Depending on your budget, you could find yourself living in anything from a penthouse apartment in the city, to a Victorian town house or modern barn conversion in the countryside. If money is no object, there are also sprawling mansions with swimming pools and home cinemas, or castles for sale. Shopping around for holiday homes will also bring some interesting choices to light, including luxury log cabins and holiday cottages in the UK, Villa in sunny destinations like Spain, Marbella, Florida, or the French Riviera, Condominiums in Florida, or Ski Chalets in the Swiss Alps, or Canadian Rockies.
If you do decide to purchase a property, or reinvigorate your current home, then home decoration will be next on your list, and there are plenty of ideas and inspiration out there. Choosing to enlist the services of a first class interior designer could be an option, and there are plenty of taste-making/trend-spotting magazines showcasing the best new products on the market, and how to use them to create the ideal room. These include Elle Decoration, Homes and Gardens, Traditional Homes and Interiors, and Living Etc. Wherever the inspiration comes from, the shopping will be down to you, whether that involves visiting art galleries, famous department stores, antique shops, or boutique furniture stores. Luxury items for the home could include anything from luxury leather sofas and velvet curtains, to fine art prints, crystal vases, high end candles, and other designer home accessories. Look out for brand names such as Bugatti and Ralph Lauren Home among the designer product ranges.
Shopping isn’t just about the home though, it’s about treating yourself too, with food and spirits, jewellery and watches, and electronic items often popular purchases. Accessible high end products like foie gras, caviar, manuka honey, truffle mushrooms, gift hampers full of luxuries, and chocolates, such as those sold at Harrods, are popular treats, while there are other rare, exclusive, and expensive luxuries on the market. These include the world’s most expensive bread, The Shepherd Loaf, made by Hobbs House Bakery in the UK, and El Poaig Extra Virgin Olive Oil, a rare and exclusive product found in Harrods.
Spirits range from the affordable luxuries to the domain of the wealthy. Higher end products on the supermarket shelves include Hendricks Gin, Grey Goose Vodka, and Balvenie Signature Malt Whiskey, while the Appleton Estate is selling the very rare 30 year old rum, the oldest rum in the world, with a price tag to match its status. There’s also a new trend that in some ways is more about the bottle than the alcohol (nice though that is). There have been bottles of La Lay Tequila and Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac, both encrusted with jewels, sold for over £1 million!
If shopping for accessories is more your style, then you’ll need to look out for names such as Hugo Boss, Citizen, Tag Heur, Asprey, Tiffany, Hermes, and Swarovski, who all stock a variety of jewellery and watches for both men and women. Electronic gadgets can often be the ultimate accessories too, whether it’s a top of the range mp3 player or i-pod, the latest i-phone or blackberry, or a state of the art satellite navigation, games console, or home entertainment system.
For those who’d like to spend their leisure time doing something more than just shopping, there are a wide variety of arts, leisure, and events options to attend and participate in throughout the year. This could mean securing tickets for high profile tennis tournaments, international football, or Formula 1 Motor Racing, splashing out on trips to the theatre, opera or ballet, golf lessons at a top golf club, or pampering at a health spa. There’s also the ‘experience days’ which are fairly new to the market. Several companies offer vouchers for experiences that are anything but every day, and cater for all tastes. Experiences currently available include champagne balloon flights, trips on the Orient Express, Ferrari driving, aqua sphering, and for the more daring, shark diving!
It doesn’t matter whether you decide to decorate your home, buy a luxury apartment abroad, stock up on luxury chocolates, or dive with sharks, though transportation will factor at some point in all these activities, whether as a one off, or as a regular part of your luxury lifestyle. Limousines and Hummers are available for hire, to add a touch of class to a night out, flying lessons or private jets can be booked for those wanting to clock up some air miles, or if you’ve got sea legs, maybe a trip to the Southampton or London Boat Shows is in order, to view luxury yachts from the likes of Sunseeker, Princess, and other big names in the boating and yachting industry.
Holiday or day to day, if luxury is a byword in your life, then there’s plenty of ideas in all categories right here on luxury.org.uk, so sit back, relax, and plan your next indulgence right here!
